Houston – Fireworks will ignite the sky, and country tunes will set the stage for Houston’s signature annual patriotic celebration, Southwest Airlines Freedom Over Texas from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 4 at the newly renovated Eleanor Tinsley Park on Buffalo Bayou (along Allen Parkway). Prolific singer-songwriter and Houston son, Clint Black and double-platinum-selling singer, songwriter Josh Turner will headline the 29-year-old annual event on the Southwest Airlines Stage that will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display by CITGO.

“I’m looking forward to celebrating the birth of our nation through this exceptional civic event that demonstrates the importance of honoring our country, respecting American values and instilling pride in our community,” said Mayor Annise D. Parker. “My heartfelt thanks to our sponsors Southwest Airlines, Walmart, Dr Pepper, Bud Light, CITGO and US Family Health Plan, who have provided overwhelming support to create this fun, family Houston Tradition.”

Josh Turner will open the festivities with his deep, soulful voice and entertain fans with tunes from his new album, Punching Bag, a knockout collection of bluegrass-influenced barnburners, lonesome laments, and the slow and steady love ballads on which Josh’s trademark baritone excels. Fans will be waiting for Turner’s tried and true picks "Time Is Love" deemed the biggest hit of 2012 by Billboard Year-End, “Why Don’t We Just Dance” and “All Over Me,” “Your Man" and "Firecracker."

Following Turner will be one of Country music’s brightest stars, the multi-talented Clint Black. Black has recorded and released more than 100 songs, has sold more than 20 million of his albums worldwide and is lauded for his deep sense of Country music history, and his humble gratitude in being an important part of it. Fan favorites include the Triple Platinum Killin’ Time, listed by CMT as one of the 100 Greatest Albums in Country Music with five #1 hits; and the Triple Platinum Put Yourself in My Shoes.

His accolades include Country Music Association Horizon Award, Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year, American Music Awards Favorite New Male Country Artist, Academy of Country Music Best New Male Vocalist, Academy of Country Music Best Male Vocalist, Academy of Country Music Album of the Year (Killin’ Time), and Academy of Country Music Single of the Year (“A Better Man”).

“44 years after we sparked the Southwest story in Houston, we’re celebrating Independence Day bigger than ever in this year of launching international service from William P. Hobby Airport,” said Linda Rutherford, Southwest Airlines Vice President of Communications & Outreach. “Freedom Over Texas matches a mission shared by more than 2,700 Houston-based Southwest employees who work tirelessly every single day to connect people to important moments in their lives.  By the end of this year, that reach will include lower fares and better Customer Service on new international flights for our hometown Houstonian Customers."

This year’s festivities include the Walmart All-American Kids Zone, a children’s entertainment area with a stage featuring entertainment for young and old, alike; the Bud Light Lime-A-Rita Beach Bash, featuring the American Beer Garden and a fun in the sun good time; the Dr Pepper One of a Kind Zone, featuring Houston professional sport team set-ups, music, food, and a salute to all 5 branches of the military; and ending the evening with an exciting fireworks finale sponsored by CITGO.
