Texas Destination Ranks Among 25 Most Beautiful Piers, Promenades and Boardwalks

GALVESTON, TX – The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier was recently named as one of the 25 most beautiful piers, promenades and boardwalks on USA Today Travel’s online edition.

The caption written by USA Today and featured under the Pier’s photo said “Strolling along Galveston Island's Historic Pleasure Pier is like stepping back in time to a 50s-era seafront midway.”

“We were honored to receive this national attention and to be ranked among some of the most famous attractions in the United States,” remarked Mark Kane, vice president of Landry’s amusement division. “The Pier is a true beauty and a testament to what once stood in the very same place over 70 years ago, so we are thrilled that the nostalgic atmosphere contributed to the recognition.”

In the late 1940s, Galveston’s Pleasure Pier was the largest of its kind in the country. For decades, Pleasure Pier operated as an iconic family destination, stimulating tourism and commerce. In 2012, the Pier was transformed into a preferred family destination with the same greatness as Chicago’s Navy Pier, Santa Monica Pier and Coney Island’s Luna Park. Situated on Seawall Boulevard in Galveston, Texas, The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier extends 1,130 feet over the Gulf of Mexico and is comprised of Texas’ first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. as well as family-oriented attractions, including 16 rides, 11 midway games, a wide selection of food venues and retail shops. At night, Pleasure Pier lights up like a fireworks display, visible for miles along the famous Galveston Seawall.

Following three years of planning and a massive $60 million construction project by Landry’s, Inc, the Pier opened with much fanfare and excitement on Memorial Day weekend. Galveston native, Tilman Fertitta, is the visionary, developer and owner of the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier.
